When salvaging hybrid and electric vehicles, special safety precautions must be taken, since no reliable assessment of the danger is possible during salvage and usually a reacting battery cannot be extinguished.
The threat is a thermal runaway
If a cell of the battery unit is damaged, there is a risk of the so-called thermal runaway. Whether a thermal runaway occurs depends on many factors, such as the battery design, the cell chemistry and the battery‘s state of charge, as well as the ambient temperature or the cooling system. For example, if the cooling circuit is defective, it can take days for the battery to react.
Protection during salvage
Our LiBa®Rescue recovery system has a variable design and is available in different sizes and various packaging options. Due to its low weight LiBa®Rescue can be used by one person, with existing recovery vehicles, without special equipment and also in difficult terrain, underground car parks or tunnels.
Counter-active color-coded zippers, lashing loops, doublevelcro tapes, an operational folding, load securing accesses and the gathering function guarantee safe use during salvage operations. The special inner layer protects the vehicle paint from scratches. Cut protection and barrier layers prevent the seepage of vehicle fluids.
